Houthi Violations in Taiz Documented

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has documented 1,891 crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia, supported by the Iranian regime, against civilians and civilian objects in Taiz Governorate. This documentation covers the period from September 1 to October 22, 2026.

Civilian Casualties and Injuries

A human rights report titled “Taiz: The Bloody Invasion and Systematic Killing” reveals that these violations resulted in the deaths of 212 civilians, including 38 children and 27 women. Additionally, the report notes that 319 civilians sustained injuries, comprising 29 children and 46 women. The report also highlights 23 incidents of field executions, 314 cases of abduction, and enforced disappearances.

Destruction and Damage

The report details the documentation of five mass massacres and the raiding of 516 homes. It states that 356 houses suffered damage due to shelling, with 98 homes completely destroyed. Furthermore, the militia detonated three houses and looted dozens of vehicles and private properties.

Military Use of Civilian Facilities

The report confirms that the militia converted schools and civilian facilities into military sites. They targeted health facilities and ambulances, launching approximately 9,876 projectiles indiscriminately at neighborhoods and residential gatherings in the governorate.

Increased Siege and Humanitarian Impact

The report indicates that the militia intensified the siege on Taiz starting September 3, 2026. They established illegal checkpoints and blocked main roads, hindering the entry of food, medicine, and humanitarian aid. The network warns that the denial of fuel necessary for operating hospitals and chronic disease treatment centers endangers patients’ lives. The military escalation by the militia has led to the displacement of around 280,000 people from the governorate.

Call for International Action

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms urges the international community and the United Nations to declare Taiz a disaster-stricken city. They call for urgent action to stop the assaults, lift the siege, open roads, secure the delivery of aid, protect civilians, and ensure accountability for the perpetrators of these violations.
