Houthi Shelling Claims Life of Pregnant Woman and Her Unborn Child in Taiz
A pregnant woman and her unborn child died following a mortar shelling carried out by Houthi militia, which targeted residential homes in the Naqil al-Hada area of the Shuqab region in the Sabir al-Mawadim district, located in southeastern Taiz Governorate.
The Taiz Human Rights Center (THRC) reported that the victim, Maliah Abduljalil Mahyoub Ali, aged 32, was in her eighth month of pregnancy. She succumbed to injuries inflicted by shrapnel from the Houthi shell, which penetrated her body from the back and exited from her abdomen, resulting in her immediate death.
The center characterized the incident as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the rules protecting civilians. It emphasized that the ongoing targeting of residential neighborhoods in Taiz by Houthi militia poses a direct threat to civilian lives.
The center urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to condemn this crime and all violations against civilians, calling for measures to ensure that perpetrators do not escape accountability.
