“Masam” Project Removes 5,653 Landmines and Unexploded Ordnance in Yemen
The “Masam” project, dedicated to demining efforts in Yemen, reported the removal of 5,653 landmines and unexploded ordnance from July 1 to July 24. This initiative aims to clear Yemeni land of war remnants and protect civilians.
Breakdown of Removed Explosives
The total number of explosives removed includes 5,246 unexploded munitions, 310 anti-tank mines, 72 anti-personnel mines, and 25 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During this period, teams cleared 1,323,226 square meters of land, facilitating safer areas for community use.
Weekly Progress Report
In the fourth week of July, Masam teams removed 1,367 explosive items. This count comprised 1,275 unexploded munitions, 73 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, and 6 IEDs. Additionally, the teams cleared 320,404 square meters of land, further enhancing safety for local residents.
Achievements in Midi District
In the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate, teams have removed a total of 10,994 explosive items since the project began. They have also cleared an impressive 4,062,269 square meters of land, significantly contributing to community safety.
Cumulative Impact Since 2018
Osama Al-Qusaybi, the project director, announced that since its inception in June 2018 until July 24, 2026, the Masam project has successfully removed 576,778 landmines and unexploded ordnance. This total includes 408,416 unexploded munitions, 152,202 anti-tank mines, 7,587 anti-personnel mines, and 8,573 IEDs.
Land Cleared for Safe Use
Al-Qusaybi highlighted that the project has cleared 83,395,361 square meters of Yemeni land during this period. These efforts have opened up vast areas for safe use, supporting the return of residents and the resumption of agricultural and service activities.
