The official spokesperson for the armed forces, Brigadier General Abdu Majali, confirmed the military’s readiness to respond to any developments or military escalations from the Houthi militia. He emphasized that the Iranian regime’s direct flight to Sana’a Airport represents a blatant violation of Yemen’s sovereignty and poses a serious threat to the country’s security and the broader region.
Iran’s Role in Heightening Tensions
In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat, Majali explained that the Iranian aircraft landing in Sana’a transported experts and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. These individuals arrived to manage military operations alongside the Houthis, underscoring Tehran’s ongoing use of the group as a tool to implement its expansionist agenda and undermine Yemen’s sovereignty.
He noted that Iran’s continuous support for the Houthis reveals the group’s role in serving regional agendas that challenge the will of the Yemeni people and the international efforts to end the war. In this context, Saudi Arabia’s efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement remain crucial.
Humanitarian and Economic Impacts
Majali held the Houthi militia accountable for the ongoing humanitarian, economic, and service deterioration in the country. He affirmed that the armed forces will continue to protect the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen and defend its airspace and land and maritime borders. They will confront any threats targeting legitimate state institutions.
Additionally, he mentioned that the Joint Operations Authority is enhancing coordination among military regions and formations. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Defense’s efforts to unify military decisions and build a more prepared and efficient force for joint operations.
Houthi Mobilizations and Maritime Threats
The military spokesperson revealed Houthi mobilizations across several fronts, particularly in Al-Hudaydah and the western coast. He also reported Houthi shelling targeting a government position in the Hays front, resulting in casualties among members of the Al-Zaraniq brigades. These mobilizations include the construction of new fortifications and trenches near the front lines.
Majali accused the Houthis of threatening the security of the Red Sea and maritime routes, jeopardizing international navigation and global trade. He warned of the damage these actions inflict on the state’s resources and the interests of the Yemeni people.
He assured that the armed forces possess multiple strengths, including heightened combat readiness, morale, and public support. Alongside the development of a joint command and operations system, they are committed to liberating territories, restoring state institutions, and reinforcing legitimacy.
