The discussion centered on strengthening collaboration in water resource management and adapting to climate change.
Key Issues in Water Management

Yemen’s Water Challenges
Minister Al-Sharjabi emphasized that Yemen faces significant and complex challenges in the water sector. These challenges stem from limited water resources, the increasing impacts of climate change, and recurring droughts. Additionally, the pressure on groundwater, inadequate infrastructure, and rising operational costs for water facilities exacerbate the situation.

This includes expanding the use of renewable energy and enhancing water efficiency. He stressed the importance of integrating water, environmental, and climate change issues into economic recovery plans. Furthermore, he called for strengthening partnerships with international organizations to build institutional and technical capacities in the sector.
OECD’s Support for Yemen
In response, the OECD representative welcomed the collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment. He reaffirmed the organization’s support for the Yemeni government’s efforts in this vital sector. The OECD is prepared to implement programs aimed at enhancing institutional and technical capacities, ultimately improving the response to climate challenges and water scarcity.
