UN Reports Significant Displacement in the West Bank

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, has reported that Israeli policies in the West Bank have led to the forced displacement of around 40,000 Palestinians since the start of 2025. This alarming statistic emerges amid a backdrop of increasing demolition operations and intensified pressures on the Palestinian population in the occupied territories.

Ongoing Displacement and Vulnerability of Families

In the first week of May alone, 42 Palestinians were displaced, including 24 children, underscoring the mounting pressures faced by Palestinian families, particularly the most vulnerable groups. These figures reflect a troubling trend and serve as a stark indicator of the deteriorating humanitarian situation within the West Bank.

Violations of International Law and Humanitarian Consequences

Haq emphasized that these actions are part of broader attempts to alter the demographic and geographic realities in the occupied Palestinian territories. He asserted that forced displacement constitutes a violation of international law, which prohibits the transfer of populations under military occupation. Such policies not only adversely affect the lives of Palestinians but also exacerbate their daily suffering.

In related developments, the death toll from Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip has reached 72,736, with injuries reported at 172,535, affecting children, women, and entire families. Rescue operations are ongoing as efforts continue to recover bodies from the rubble in various areas of Gaza, where hostilities persist.

Medical sources reported five additional fatalities and 15 injuries in the past 24 hours due to ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement declared on October 10. These statistics further highlight the ongoing suffering in Palestinian territories and underscore the urgent need for international intervention to address these violations.
