President Alimi Receives Mauritanian Foreign Minister
On Thursday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen, received Dr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzouk, the special envoy from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Accompanying the envoy was Dr. Abdullah Alimi, a member of the council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad. The Mauritanian envoy delivered a written message from President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, which emphasized the importance of bilateral relations between Yemen and Mauritania, as well as coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Greetings and Well-Wishes
During the meeting, the Mauritanian Foreign Minister conveyed President Ghazouani’s warm greetings and best wishes for the health and happiness of President Alimi and the Yemeni people. He expressed hopes for security, stability, and peace for the nation. In response, President Alimi asked the Mauritanian minister to extend his greetings and well-wishes to President Ghazouani, conveying his wishes for the Mauritanian leader’s health and prosperity for the Mauritanian people.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The discussions highlighted the strong ties that exist between Yemen and Mauritania, focusing on possibilities for enhancing cooperation across various sectors. The leaders emphasized the need for continued coordination and consultation between the two nations in regional and international forums, especially in light of shared challenges both countries face.
President Alimi praised the historical relationship between Yemen and Mauritania, noting the deep-rooted Arab, Islamic, and cultural connections that unite both nations. He expressed gratitude for Mauritania’s supportive stance towards the Yemeni people and their political leadership, as well as its commitment to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity.
Moreover, President Alimi reaffirmed the council’s and the government’s steadfast commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace, notwithstanding the setbacks in political efforts over recent years attributed to the intransigence of the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
Additionally, the President addressed the ongoing transformations in the liberated provinces of Yemen, which include economic and financial reforms, efforts to unify security and military decisions, and the strengthening of state institutions, all supported by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, and former Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed. This gathering underscores the commitment of both nations to foster stronger ties and address common challenges, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in the future.
