U.S. Central Command Launches Mine Removal Operation in Strait of Hormuz

On Saturday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the initiation of a mission aimed at detecting and removing mines from the Strait of Hormuz. This operation seeks to establish a new safe passage for vessels navigating the region.

Mission Details

In a statement shared on its official page on X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM confirmed that U.S. forces have begun preparations for mine removal in the strategic waterway. The statement highlighted the deployment of two U.S. Navy destroyers equipped with guided missiles, which recently transited the strait and conducted operations in the Gulf.

Naval Operations

The destroyers, USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy, crossed the Strait of Hormuz as part of a broader mission. This initiative aims to ensure the complete removal of naval mines previously laid by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Importance of the Operation

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route, with a significant percentage of the world’s oil supply passing through it. Ensuring its safety is vital for global trade and regional stability.

This operation reflects ongoing U.S. efforts to enhance maritime security and counter threats in the region.
