The Yemeni government welcomes the European classification of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.

Yemeni Government Welcomes EU’s Designation of Iranian Revolutionary Guard as Terrorist Organization

The Yemeni government has expressed strong support for the European Union’s recent decision to classify the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. This classification marks a significant step toward deterring one of the most dangerous sources of instability in the region. The Yemeni authorities view the IRGC as a direct threat to both regional and international peace and security.

Recognition of Destructive Role

In an official statement, the Yemeni government highlighted that this decision reflects a heightened European awareness of the IRGC’s destructive role over the years. The IRGC has fueled armed conflicts, systematically supported militias outside national state institutions, threatened international waterways, and undermined global stability and security.

Houthi Militias as IRGC Proxies

The Yemeni government emphasized that the Houthi militias represent a direct military arm of the IRGC. Their violent agenda, which seeks to impose control through force, clearly extends the IRGC’s destructive influence. This includes targeting civilians, disrupting maritime shipping, and obstructing regional and international peace efforts.

Call for Further Action Against Houthi Militias

In light of the EU’s decision, the Yemeni government urged the European Union to take similar decisive action by designating the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization. This move would align with European laws, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and would help cut off funding sources for these militias. It would also deter their aggressive behavior and enhance the prospects for a just and lasting peace in Yemen and the broader region.

Commitment to Regional Stability

The Yemeni government reiterated that the path to regional security and stability begins with ending the culture of impunity for those who support and manage cross-border armed militias. It called for support for national state institutions, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, and the promotion of peace.

Collaboration with the International Community

Furthermore, the Yemeni government reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the international community, particularly the European Union, to achieve peace, combat terrorism, protect international navigation, and build a secure and stable future for the region’s populations.
