He highlighted the current situation in the country, focusing on the devastating impacts of the war ignited by the Houthi militia. He condemned their aggressive actions against maritime navigation and shipping vessels, as well as their severe human rights violations, which include the detention and disappearance of numerous United Nations agency staff and international mission members.
Updates on the Humanitarian Crisis
President Alimi and his council members informed world leaders about the developments in Yemen. They emphasized the urgent interventions needed to address the humanitarian crisis created by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia. The president called for a comprehensive international approach, moving away from the previous “containment” policy that failed to effectively address the threat posed by the Houthis and their allied terrorist organizations.
A Call for International Coalition
In this context, President Alimi urged the international community to form an effective coalition aimed at restoring security and stability in Yemen. He stressed the importance of rebuilding the country’s institutions and liberating it from the grip of militias and terrorist groups.
Engaging in High-Level Meetings
On the sidelines of the General Assembly, President Alimi, along with council members and their accompanying delegation, held bilateral meetings and high-level discussions. They engaged with heads of state, government officials, diplomats, and regional and international stakeholders. Additionally, they inaugurated the Yemeni exhibition showcasing books, visual arts, and photography, and participated in open discussions with American elites and representatives of the Yemeni community in the United States.
Farewell at New York Airport
Upon his departure from New York, President Alimi received a warm farewell from Abdullah Al-Saadi, Yemen’s permanent representative to the United Nations, and Imad Bamterf, Yemen’s Deputy Ambassador in Washington.
