"Masam" Dismantles 4,620 War Ordnances in Abyan

The "Masam" project, dedicated to clearing landmines in Yemen, successfully destroyed 4,620 pieces of war ordnance in Abyan Governorate. These explosives were planted by Houthi militias, which receive support from the Iranian regime.

Successful Operation in Abyan

In a recent statement, the Masam media office confirmed that the project executed a significant operation to eliminate a large quantity of unexploded ordnance in the Wadi Dofas area of Zinjibar District, Abyan. This initiative forms part of Masam’s ongoing efforts to enhance community security and protect civilian lives.

Details of the Destruction

The operation, led by the Special Tasks Team One, resulted in the destruction of various types of ordnance. The breakdown includes:

  • 155 assorted shells
  • 235 assorted fuses
  • 85 armor-piercing projectiles
  • 4,096 assorted rounds
  • 13 anti-personnel mines
  • 5 anti-tank mines
  • 31 hand grenades

Commitment to Safety Standards

Engineer Munther Qassem, the leader of the Special Tasks Team One, stated that the operation took place in a secure area, far from residential and agricultural zones. He emphasized that the team adhered strictly to international standards despite facing field challenges.

Ongoing Humanitarian Efforts

The Masam project continues its humanitarian mission across various governorates plagued by landmines and remnants of war. The initiative aims to clear the land and ensure a safe return to normalcy for local communities.
