Yemenia Airlines has announced the addition of a new aircraft to its fleet, set to enter service by the end of May. This development coincides with the launch of the national carrier’s Hajj operations for the year 1446 AH, which began last week. The airline will facilitate the transportation of pilgrims from several liberated airports in Yemen to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
Mohsen Haidara, the Deputy General Manager for Commercial Affairs at Yemenia Airlines, shared insights with the Yemeni News Agency (Saba). He revealed that Captain Nasser Mahmoud, the Chairman of the Board, signed a contract to purchase an Airbus A320 several months ago. This addition will increase the airline’s fleet to four aircraft. The move reflects Yemenia’s commitment to maintaining flight operations and enhancing service quality for all citizens. It also aims to alleviate the pressure on flight schedules, especially given the significant challenges the airline faces after three of its planes were completely destroyed in recent attacks on Sana’a International Airport.
Haidara further noted that the airline commenced its Hajj flights on Tuesday, transporting pilgrims from Yemen to the holy sites. The inaugural flight departed from Aden International Airport to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Yemenia plans to transport approximately 6,255 pilgrims through around 47 scheduled flights, with an additional 11 flights possible. These operations will utilize airports in Aden, Hadramout, and Al-Mahra, following coordination with the Ministry of Awqaf and Guidance and relevant authorities to finalize all necessary arrangements.
Yemenia Airlines’ expansion and timely launch of Hajj flights underscore its dedication to serving the Yemeni community. As the airline navigates ongoing challenges, it remains focused on providing reliable air travel and supporting the spiritual journeys of its passengers.
