On Sunday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Shao Cheng, the Chargé d’Affaires of the People’s Republic of China in Yemen. The meeting focused on strategies to enhance cooperation between Yemen and China across economic, security, and humanitarian domains.
During their discussions, President Alimi expressed pride in the enduring relationship between Yemen and China, which spans 70 years. He underscored that the ties between the two nations transcend contemporary political frameworks, emphasizing China’s consistent support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
President Alimi highlighted Yemen’s strategic location as a crucial partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. He noted that Yemen’s stability is vital not only for the region but also for China’s broader economic interests and global trade security.
Furthermore, the President pointed to a recent agreement on development cooperation, expressing a desire to expand collaborative efforts in critical areas such as ports, renewable energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, and human capacity development. He stressed that investing in Yemen and its legitimate institutions presents the most sustainable and secure pathway for the future of the region.
Amid these discussions, President Alimi also addressed the security threats posed by the Houthi militia, which he described as part of a broader Iranian transnational network. He reaffirmed Yemen’s commitment to the One China Policy and expressed hope for increased Chinese involvement in Yemen’s recovery and reconstruction initiatives, aiming to utilize Chinese expertise in various sectors.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, was also present at the meeting, further emphasizing the significance of this diplomatic engagement. This meeting serves as a crucial step in reinforcing the longstanding partnership between Yemen and China, paving the way for future collaboration and mutual growth.
