Leadership Meeting with European Diplomats
Today, Major General Sultan al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Patrick Simonnet, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, and Catherine Colonna, the French Ambassador. The meeting focused on the latest developments in Yemen and explored opportunities for enhanced cooperation.
Emphasizing International Support for Economic Reforms
During the meeting, which also included Luis Bueno, Deputy Ambassador of the EU, and Joost Molman, Cooperation Advisor, al-Arada stressed the importance of bolstering international and European roles in supporting economic reforms. He highlighted the need for assistance as Yemen navigates this critical phase, particularly in overcoming the humanitarian crisis exacerbated by Houthi militias.
Addressing Regional Security Threats
Al-Arada pointed out that the escalating threats from Iranian-backed Houthi militias extend beyond Yemen. These threats now jeopardize international shipping security and regional stability, necessitating urgent international action and a more effective response to mitigate these risks.
Commitment to Economic Improvement
The council member noted the ongoing efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to implement economic reforms aimed at enhancing institutional performance, increasing resources, and alleviating the living burdens on citizens. He emphasized the need for sustained international support from European and global partners to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of these reforms.
Call for Increased International Interventions
Al-Arada urged for a significant increase in international interventions to assist Yemen in confronting the world’s most severe humanitarian crisis. He called for enhanced support in sectors such as services, infrastructure, relief, and sustainable development. In response, both the EU and French ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with the Yemeni government.
