Water and Environment Minister discusses revenue growth and challenges in the water and sanitation sector across provinces.

In Aden, the temporary capital, Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, convened a meeting today with the directors of water and sanitation institutions across the liberated provinces to discuss the current state of these institutions and strategies for enhancing revenue collection for water services.

During the meeting, Minister Al-Sharjabi heard from the institution directors about the progress of work, plans to address shortcomings in activities, and efforts to follow up on revenue collection, debts, and arrears from both public and private entities. They reviewed reports on how to tackle challenges such as unauthorized connections, water loss, tariff issues, and the mechanisms for billing distribution and payment, as well as ways to improve the efficiency of services provided to citizens.

Minister Al-Sharjabi emphasized the importance of developing the resources of these institutions to overcome the challenges facing this vital sector and to meet operational expenses and salary obligations. He stressed the need for improved performance and the implementation of measures to address the difficulties encountered, especially in the current situation the country is facing.

He directed the necessity of executing a plan for the distribution and collection of revenues for water and sanitation institutions, urging a doubling of efforts and enhancing performance through teamwork to elevate the work level within the ministry’s affiliated institutions.

Furthermore, Minister Al-Sharjabi highlighted the significance of developing a strategy for alternative diesel fuel uses and addressing issues in full coordination with local authorities.

This discussion underscores the Yemeni government’s commitment to addressing the challenges within the water and sanitation sector and improving the quality of services for its citizens amidst ongoing challenges.
