UNICEF has issued a grave warning regarding the urgent need to evacuate sick and injured children from Gaza for medical treatment outside the region. Without this intervention, many of these children face a dire fate.
James Elder, a spokesperson for UNICEF, highlighted the critical condition of approximately 2,500 children in Gaza. He stated, “Given the current pace of medical evacuations, it will take over seven years to evacuate them all.” Elder called on relevant authorities to act swiftly to save the lives of these children, who suffer from severe injuries, including head trauma, amputations, severe burns, and cancer.
Elder emphasized that bureaucratic indifference leads to the suffering and death of children who could otherwise be saved with timely medical care. He pointed out that the ongoing conflict in Gaza, now over a year old, exacerbates the situation, with the Israeli military committing atrocities in the region.
In light of these circumstances, Elder urged immediate medical evacuations for children to alleviate their suffering. He stressed that the time for action is now, as every moment counts for those in need of urgent care.
