Historic Achievements of Artemis 2 Crew

The announcement coincided with the presentation of the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the Artemis 2 crew. This team made history by becoming the first to reach lunar orbit since 1972, traveling over 406,000 kilometers from Earth. Notably, this mission marked a milestone as it included the first woman, a Black astronaut, and a non-American astronaut.

Competing in the New Space Race

This development comes as the Trump administration confirms its engagement in a “second space race” with China. Both Washington and Beijing aim to send astronauts to the Moon by 2030 and establish permanent lunar bases.
