The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has reported that the Iranian-backed Houthi militia committed 95 crimes and violations against civilians in Taiz Governorate within the last 24 hours. Additionally, the militia launched approximately 218 projectiles targeting residential areas in the province.
The network’s statement detailed various violations, including killings and injuries from shelling and sniper fire, abductions, and detentions in unknown locations. The militia also raided homes, targeted residential neighborhoods, ambulances, and medical teams, invaded civilian facilities, looted their contents, and attacked public roads. These actions occurred alongside ongoing blockades and restrictions on the movement of residents and essential supplies.
The Houthi assaults resulted in the deaths of 23 individuals, including two women and three children, one of whom was an infant. The attacks also injured 29 others, comprising seven women and four children. Furthermore, the militia abducted 11 citizens and transferred them to unknown locations, while raiding approximately nine homes in the Jabal Habashi district.
The attacks caused damage to 12 homes, six of which were completely destroyed. Additionally, nine civilian vehicles sustained damage.
The network confirmed that the shelling and sniper fire targeted villages such as Kahlān, Al-Shuqb, Al-Najadah, Al-Rahn, Al-Janahbi, Al-Hisan, and Al-Awat in the Sabir Al-Mawadim district. Other affected areas included Al-Masrak, Al-Aqroud, and Daba, as well as neighborhoods like Al-Masbah, Sinaa, Al-Bayrasha, and Asifrah. The assaults also impacted the Al-Dabba area in the Al-Taziyah district and Al-Zahr in the Jabal Habashi district, along with regions in the north, east, and west of Taiz city.
The network reported that the assaults utilized mortars, artillery, Katyusha rockets, and drones. They also received reports of the use of gas canisters believed to be tear gas in the Asifrah area, although the nature of these canisters remains under technical verification.
The network documented an incident where a drone fired a projectile at an ambulance while it was evacuating injured individuals following a shelling attack on a sponge factory in Al-Dar neighborhood. This attack injured the accompanying doctor and destroyed the vehicle, forcing residents to take alternative routes to transport the wounded.
The network emphasized that targeting ambulances, combined with a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, increases the risk of death and disability among the injured. They urged the international community to take immediate action to support the residents of Taiz and halt the repeated shelling of residential areas.
The network called for an end to the targeting of civilians and civilian objects, protection for hospitals and medical teams, lifting the blockade and restrictions on the movement of residents and essential supplies, and ensuring safe and sustainable access to food, medicine, fuel, and cooking gas.
