The Wall Street Journal has reported that Iran has initiated active efforts to resupply its regional allies with advanced weaponry. This includes significant support for the Houthi movement in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Intelligence sources and recent intercepted shipments provide evidence of these activities, which follow weeks of reduced airstrikes on Iranian facilities.
According to the report, the National Resistance Forces intercepted a substantial arms shipment intended for the Houthis. This shipment, transported on a dhow vessel through Djibouti, contained 750 tons of various weapons. The cache included cruise missiles, anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles, drone engines, warheads, and documents in Persian that indicated Iranian origins.
Experts note that these developments coincide with the Houthi military depletion over recent months. Reports indicate that the Houthis have recently employed missiles and drones to sink two commercial vessels in the Red Sea, highlighting their ongoing military operations despite dwindling resources.
In response to these allegations, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqaei officially denied any involvement in arming the Houthis, labeling the accusations as “baseless.”
The report also highlights that Hezbollah is working to restore its military capabilities despite stringent restrictions. The Lebanese Army recently seized shipments containing Russian Kornet missiles and components for drone manufacturing along the Syrian border. This comes amid reports of a restructuring of smuggling networks.
In a speech characterized as confrontational, Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Naeem Qassem stated that the group is “ready for confrontation with Israel.” This statement signals a potential escalation in military readiness and reflects Hezbollah’s ongoing efforts to enhance its military capabilities.
The Wall Street Journal suggests that these developments could reshape regional deterrence dynamics and may herald a new phase of escalation across multiple fronts in the Middle East. As tensions rise, the international community watches closely for further developments.
The situation remains fluid, and the implications of Iran’s actions could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability.
