Minister of Transport Discusses Airline Operations with Private Companies

Meeting Overview

Today, Dr. Abdul Salam Hamid, the Minister of Transport, met with representatives from private investment airlines to expedite their flight operations. This initiative aims to alleviate the pressure on passenger demand, particularly for patients and students. The meeting took place in the temporary capital of Aden and included key figures such as Engineer Tarek Abdo, the Deputy Minister for Air Transport, Captain Saleh Bin Naheed, the President of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, and Captain Mohammed Maqbel, the Assistant Deputy for Safety.

Addressing Operational Challenges

During the meeting, the Minister listened to the challenges faced by the airline representatives. They discussed the progress made in meeting the requirements set by the General Authority for Civil Aviation. Dr. Hamid emphasized the urgency of fulfilling the remaining requirements to enable the airlines to commence operations swiftly.

Government Support for Airlines

Dr. Hamid reaffirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating the operations of investment airlines in Yemen. He highlighted the importance of these airlines in meeting travel demands and creating job opportunities for the local workforce. The Minister also stressed the need for regular meetings to assess the companies’ progress, identify obstacles, and motivate them to complete the necessary requirements for successful operations.

Fostering a Supportive Investment Environment

The Minister outlined the ministry’s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment that encourages private sector participation. He underscored the significance of strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors. This collaboration aims to empower private companies and enhance their contributions to developmental projects and economic activities.

Upcoming Maintenance Project

Additionally, Dr. Hamid mentioned the regional maintenance and engineering hangar project for Yemenia Airlines at Aden International Airport. The foundation for this project was laid several months ago, and the site has been designated. The ministry plans to initiate construction soon, following the bidding process. This facility will assist private airlines with aircraft maintenance.

Civil Aviation Authority’s Role

Captain Saleh Bin Naheed highlighted the importance of private airlines swiftly meeting the remaining requirements to begin operations. He emphasized that this would serve the public and integrate local personnel into these companies under the authority’s regulations. He also reviewed the role of the authority and the services provided to facilitate and enhance air transport activities.

Appreciation from Airline Representatives

In conclusion, the representatives from the private airlines expressed their gratitude to Minister Hamid for convening the meeting. They appreciated his willingness to listen to their concerns and the solutions and support offered by the ministry and the authority.
