The Supreme Energy Council convened today in Aden, the temporary capital, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak. The meeting focused on several decisions and measures aimed at improving electricity conditions in Aden and other liberated provinces. These initiatives aim to prepare for the upcoming summer and address the pressing need for increased energy generation and fuel supply.
During the meeting, the council reviewed plans to secure electrical energy for the upcoming summer. Key discussions included maintenance work on power stations, fuel supply management, and energy transmission networks. The council emphasized the importance of reducing losses and ensuring service stability to alleviate citizens’ suffering. They reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating with the Presidential Leadership Council to find sustainable solutions to the electricity crisis, moving away from temporary fixes.
The council also examined the electricity sector’s needs and coordinated efforts with the Presidential Leadership Council to implement the Summer 2025 plan. They highlighted the significance of ongoing financial and administrative reforms in this vital sector. Enhancing transparency and accountability remains crucial to overcoming challenges that could hinder effective problem-solving.
To ensure financial accountability for energy fuel, the council assigned a committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Electricity, the General Electricity Corporation, the Cabinet’s General Secretariat, and local authorities in liberated provinces. This committee will oversee financial assessments related to energy fuel and report findings for further discussion and necessary actions. They will also develop effective mechanisms for the fuel supply system to meet government commitments.
The meeting approved a mechanism to guarantee the flow of fuel designated for the President Gas Station in Aden. Additionally, they compiled a list of essential needs for electricity projects to stabilize the power system in Aden and other liberated provinces during the summer of 2025.
Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak directed the implementation of maintenance work at the President Gas Station in Aden. He called for clear and scheduled maintenance plans for power stations, along with swift solutions to existing issues within the electrical system. The Prime Minister reiterated that his directives to cancel purchased energy contracts and regulate fuel procurement through tenders represent critical steps to reduce unnecessary expenditures in this sector. These savings could significantly benefit the state budget and support strategic solutions to enhance and sustain electricity services.
The meeting included key figures such as Dr. Waed Badhieb, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation; Salem bin Bureik, Minister of Finance; Mani bin Yameen, Minister of Electricity and Energy; and Saeed Al-Shamasi, Minister of Oil and Minerals. Other attendees included Prime Minister Advisor Ambassador Mujib Othman, Executive Director of the Prime Minister’s Technical Team Jamal bin Ghanem, Executive Director of PetroMasila Mohammed bin Samit, General Director of the General Electricity Corporation Mujib Al-Shaabi, and General Director of Electricity in Aden Salem Al-Walidi.
