Parliamentary Committee Concludes Oversight in Marib

On Thursday, the parliamentary committee wrapped up its oversight activities concerning revenue-generating institutions in Marib Governorate. The committee held a final session with the Deputy Governor, Ali Al-Fatimi, along with several local authority leaders and relevant offices.

Successful Mission Acknowledged

Committee Chairman, Abdullah Al-Maqtari, expressed satisfaction with the committee’s successful mission in Marib. He thanked the local authority leadership, particularly Presidential Council member, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, for their cooperation.

Al-Maqtari noted, “All local authority leaders and offices in Marib responded positively and provided the committee with all requested documents transparently. This reflects their strong commitment to the public interest.”

Addressing the Displacement Crisis

The committee highlighted the pressing issue of displaced persons in Marib, who constitute over 73% of the total displaced population in liberated governorates, according to reports from international organizations. This situation poses a significant challenge for local authorities, creating a burden that exceeds their capacity.

The growing needs for essential services and infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals, far surpass current provisions. Therefore, the committee called for increased humanitarian efforts from the international community to support Marib. This support is crucial for improving the living conditions of displaced individuals and enhancing the services provided to them.

Urgent Need for Support

Al-Maqtari emphasized that the displacement crisis remains one of the most critical issues facing Marib. The committee observed this firsthand during field visits and through reports submitted to them. He stated, “The local authority has shouldered this humanitarian and ethical responsibility for the past ten years.”

He underscored the importance of supporting local authorities with projects aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced persons. Such initiatives would help reduce the burden on Marib’s authorities across various sectors, including security, relief, and service provision.

Conclusion

The parliamentary committee’s oversight mission in Marib has shed light on significant challenges, particularly the plight of displaced individuals. The call for international support remains urgent as local authorities strive to improve living conditions and essential services in the region.
