Today, Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek met with British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, to discuss the latest national, regional, and international developments. The meeting highlighted the UK’s supportive stance toward the Yemeni government.
The virtual meeting focused on various cooperation programs between Yemen and the United Kingdom. Key topics included the upcoming launch of a technical support program for the Yemeni government in Aden. Additionally, they discussed reforms in the pension system and the support from Yemen’s partner nations for the government’s ongoing reform agenda. This agenda aims to implement an economic recovery plan and bolster the Coast Guard.
The conversation also addressed the ongoing smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, which poses a significant threat to international peace and security.
Prime Minister bin Brek praised the strong bilateral relations between Yemen and the UK, emphasizing their cooperation across various sectors. He noted the preparations for a donor conference in Aden, scheduled for October, which will focus on protecting the health sector. This conference will be co-chaired by Yemeni and British officials. The Prime Minister expressed hope for the UK’s participation in the upcoming international food security conference in Yemen, sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council.
In response, Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government in its efforts to maintain economic stability and implement necessary reforms. She commended the Prime Minister and his administration for their dedication despite the ongoing challenges and difficult circumstances.
The meeting also included Dr. Ali Atbosh, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, and Ambassador Mujib Othman, Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister.
