The Presidential Leadership Council discusses strategies to address the impacts of local and regional developments.

Presidential Leadership Council Holds Key Meeting

On Thursday, the Presidential Leadership Council convened under the leadership of President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi. The meeting included members Sultan Al-Aradah, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, and Othman Majli, with virtual participation from Tariq Saleh, Major General Mahmoud Al-Sobaihi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi.

Discussion on Local and Regional Developments

The council addressed various local developments and the escalating tensions in the region. They examined the implications of these tensions on national and regional security, as well as the government’s measures to mitigate their impact on the economic and humanitarian conditions of citizens.

Economic Performance Report

In light of these changes, the council received a report from the head of the economic team, Hossam Al-Sharjabi. The report highlighted key economic, financial, and monetary performance indicators, alongside the progress of comprehensive reforms. The Central Bank’s urgent measures to address liquidity shortages while maintaining the stability of the national currency were also discussed.

Recommendations for Adaptation

The council approved a series of recommendations aimed at adapting to regional and international changes. These recommendations focus on ensuring the flow of goods, sustaining essential services, and fulfilling the state’s obligations to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people caused by the Iranian-backed Houthi militias.

Acknowledgment of Government Efforts

The council commended the government and the Central Bank for implementing its decisions. They noted the comprehensive measures that led to the resumption of Article IV consultations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after a hiatus of over 11 years. This step reflects growing confidence in the progress of governmental reforms and the gradual recovery of the national economy from the deep recession following Houthi attacks on oil facilities.

IMF Consultations and Economic Reintegration

The council acknowledged the IMF’s approval of the outcomes from these consultations, which serve as a crucial gateway for reintegrating the Yemeni economy into the international financial system. This move aims to enhance the government’s creditworthiness among donors and investors, creating an attractive environment for external support and investment flows.

Assessment of Houthi Military Escalation

The council also reviewed the Houthi militia’s involvement in regional military escalation and its complete subservience to the Iranian regime. They expressed concern over the militia’s attempts to use Yemen as a regional bargaining chip, posing a direct threat to national security, international navigation, and economic stability.

Warning Against Military Ventures

The council reiterated its warning to the Houthi militias regarding the consequences of their military ventures that support Iranian agendas. They condemned the use of Yemeni territory as a platform for targeting maritime shipping and international interests, labeling these actions as hostile against Yemen and a threat to its people’s interests and national security.

Condemnation of Iranian Aggressions

The Yemeni government condemned Iran’s blatant aggressions against the sovereignty of Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan. The council emphasized the need for the Iranian regime to adhere to a ceasefire, fully open the Strait of Hormuz, and abandon its hostile policies and expansionist agendas that foster chaos in the region through its militias.

Security Situation Evaluation

The council reviewed the security situation in several provinces and the measures taken to enhance security and stability. They discussed strategies to deter terrorist threats, protect civilians, and secure public and private property.

Support for Local Authorities

The council reaffirmed its full support for local authorities and security agencies in maintaining security and stability. They called for unity and prioritizing national interests, urging all parties to mobilize efforts toward restoring state institutions.

Appreciation for Saudi Support

The council expressed deep appreciation for the ongoing support from Saudi Arabia in establishing security, improving living conditions for the Yemeni people, and achieving their aspirations for building national institutions, restoring stability, peace, and development.

Review of Previous Meeting

The council also reviewed the minutes of its previous meeting and approved them. They conducted a brief assessment of the implementation of their decisions and recommendations in coordination with relevant entities.
