On Wednesday, the Presidential Council of the House of Representatives convened under the leadership of Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani. The meeting took place at the council’s headquarters in the temporary capital, Aden. The council aimed to address the latest developments and changes affecting the country.
During the meeting, members of the House of Representatives, including Mohammed Qabati, Abdullah al-Maqtari, Abdullah al-Khalqi, Suhail Abdul Razak, and Khalid Shaif, reviewed the agenda. They discussed outcomes from recent meetings with President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, and Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Brek. The discussions focused on the political and economic situations in Yemen, outlining necessary actions to tackle these challenges. The council emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among all authorities to effectively respond to the various challenges facing the nation during this exceptional period.
The council also discussed arrangements for upcoming sessions and outlined its general work plan for the near future. Priorities for the current phase were established, including the formation of special committees to conduct field visits to the provinces of Aden, Taiz, Lahij, Al-Dhale, Hadramout, Al-Mahra, Shabwa, Marib, and Abyan. These visits aim to assess local authority activities, financial and administrative practices, and the management of both central and local public resources.
The Presidential Council addressed several issues related to the overall national situation, particularly the economic, humanitarian, and service challenges faced by the Yemeni people. The council underscored the necessity of resuming regular sessions to fulfill its legislative and oversight responsibilities amid current conditions. It expressed a commitment to ensuring that state institutions effectively perform their designated tasks and unify their efforts.
Additionally, the council’s president and members met with the staff of the council’s General Secretariat. They listened to updates on the workflow and discussed various financial, administrative, and technical issues related to the General Secretariat’s responsibilities, making necessary decisions to address these matters.
Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani praised the efforts of the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives. He stressed the importance of collective action to overcome challenges that may hinder workflow in the current environment. Furthermore, he emphasized the need to adhere to the regulations governing the General Secretariat’s operations and to enhance its performance, recognizing its critical role in supporting parliamentary work and meeting necessary requirements.
