Dr. Saeed Al-Shamasi, the Minister of Oil and Minerals, along with Sheikh Awad bin Al-Wazir, the Governor of Shabwa, officially inaugurated the construction of a new Medical College and Health Sciences building. The project, which has a budget exceeding $1.656 million, receives local funding.
Overview of the Medical College Project
The architectural designs for the college include three main buildings. The first building will house the college’s administration and faculty offices. Additionally, it will feature four external lecture halls, five internal lecture halls, a central library, and four laboratories. Separate prayer rooms for male and female students will also be included.
The second building will serve as an anatomy lab, complete with a study room, a large refrigerator, and a dedicated laboratory. The third building will provide essential service facilities and common lounges for students.
Significance of the Inauguration
Both the Minister and the Governor expressed their enthusiasm for laying the foundation stone of the college. This marks the first educational and academic institution established within the new university campus. They praised the overall designs of the college buildings and emphasized the importance of adhering to these plans.
Solar Energy Project Update
In addition to the college inauguration, Dr. Al-Shamasi and Governor bin Al-Wazir reviewed the progress of the first solar energy project in the province, supported by the United Arab Emirates. They commended the pace of work on this project, which spans an area of approximately 560,000 square meters.
Engineers provided detailed explanations regarding the project components, which include the installation of solar panel structures, the construction of six substations, and the necessary electrical extensions. They also discussed the construction of a 14-kilometer transmission tower network to connect to the central distribution station in Ataq.
Importance of the Solar Energy Project
The Minister and the Governor highlighted the project’s significance in addressing the energy challenges faced by the province. They expressed gratitude for the support from the UAE in establishing this strategic initiative.

The event also saw the presence of several officials, including Abdul-Rahman Hashlah, the Secretary-General of the Local Council in the province, and Youssef Musaad, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, along with various provincial representatives.
