The Ministry of Human Rights has strongly condemned the severe violations committed by Houthi militias against civilians in Taiz Governorate. Between April 5 and April 8, 2026, the region experienced four violent incidents, including three sniper attacks and shelling that targeted residential areas. This escalation highlights a blatant disregard for civilian lives.
In a recent statement, the ministry reported that its team documented a series of crimes resulting from Houthi actions. These violations led to the injury of 62-year-old Shifa Hatim Ali Rashid and the deaths of several individuals, including 13-year-old Ibrahim Jalal Amin Ahmed, 14-year-old Khalid Walid Mohammed, and 70-year-old Mohammed Farhan Ali Abdullah, who succumbed to his injuries. These incidents occurred in areas under Houthi control.
The ministry emphasized that these acts represent a systematic pattern of targeting civilians, constituting a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Such actions may amount to serious crimes against humanity. Furthermore, these violations demonstrate a clear disregard for peace efforts and a continuation of violence and military escalation.
The Ministry of Human Rights urges the international community and the United Nations Security Council to take clear and decisive stances against these violations. It calls for immediate action to halt these abuses and to ensure accountability for the perpetrators. The ministry also appeals to the UN envoy to Yemen to fulfill his responsibilities and take practical steps to protect civilians.
The Ministry of Human Rights reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and documenting violations while collaborating with partners to achieve justice and support victims. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure that those responsible for these atrocities face consequences.
