Minister of Culture and Tourism Discusses Cooperation with EU Ambassador
On Wednesday, Minister of Culture and Tourism, Muti Dhamaj, met with Patrick Simonnet, the European Union Ambassador to Yemen. Their goal is to preserve Yemen’s historical and cultural heritage while developing the tourism industry and expanding economic opportunities.
Expanding Cultural Partnerships
During the virtual meeting, Minister Dhamaj emphasized the importance of broadening partnerships in the cultural sector. He highlighted that such collaborations would protect Yemeni heritage, support creative sectors, empower youth, and strengthen cultural presence in efforts to promote social cohesion and stability.
Cultural Identity and Sustainable Programs
Dhamaj pointed out that culture plays a crucial role in enhancing national identity. He stressed the need for developing quality programs in partnership with international supporters to create a lasting impact on society. He outlined the ministry’s priorities, which include revitalizing the tourism sector, protecting historical cities and landmarks, and creating an attractive institutional environment for investment. This sector holds promise for boosting state resources and fostering cooperation with EU countries, while also generating job opportunities and stimulating the local economy.
European Support for Cultural Development
The Minister also underscored the significance of European support in aiding the ministry’s efforts to develop policies, plans, and executive programs. This support would extend to cultural centers, events, and promoting Yemen’s cultural and tourism assets.
Yemen’s Rich Cultural Heritage
Dhamaj highlighted Yemen’s rich cultural and historical heritage, along with its unique tourism diversity, which includes historical cities, archaeological sites, and architectural landmarks. He affirmed that this heritage serves as a strategic asset and a vital foundation for enhancing identity and revitalizing the culture and tourism sectors, provided they receive adequate protection, support, and rehabilitation.
EU’s Commitment to Stability and Development
In response, Ambassador Patrick Simonnet reiterated the importance of culture as a pillar for peace and social cohesion. He emphasized the creation of inclusive economic opportunities.
