Minister of Youth and Sports, Nayef Al-Bakri, commended the performance of Yemen’s under-17 football team during the qualifiers for the Asian Cup, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia next year.
Achievements in Youth Football
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), Al-Bakri highlighted the significance of this qualification, noting, “This achievement adds to the successes of Yemeni football across various age categories.” He also acknowledged the team’s previous accomplishments, including winning the West Asian Championship twice in a row.
Congratulations from Political Leadership
Al-Bakri expressed congratulations on behalf of the political leadership, including President Rashad Mohammed Alimi, the members of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the Prime Minister. He extended his best wishes to the players, the national team delegation, the General Football Federation, and the sports fans in Yemen. The minister hopes the team will achieve commendable results in the upcoming Asian Cup.
Path to the Asian Cup
Yemen’s national under-17 team secured a spot in the 2025 Asian Cup finals after finishing at the top of Group 9 during the qualifiers. The team earned seven points, highlighted by a draw against Vietnam, where the match ended in a 1-1 tie. Earlier, they claimed victories over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan.
