On Saturday evening, Minister of Youth and Sports Nayef Saleh Al-Bakri attended the 12th edition of the Aden Open Water Swimming Championship. This event took place at the Al-Sawah Pier in the Tawahi district and attracted over 50 swimmers, showcasing the growing interest in open water swimming in Yemen.
Minister Al-Bakri Commends Organizational Efforts
During the championship, which also saw the presence of Assistant Minister for Project Sector Mohsen Bayek, Minister Al-Bakri praised the General Swimming and Water Sports Federation for their efforts in organizing such events in Aden. He acknowledged the local authority’s support for these initiatives, which reflect positively on the province’s sporting landscape. Al-Bakri expressed his hopes for the swimmers, wishing them success in their endeavors and future competitions.
Goals of the Championship
Khaled Mohsen Al-Khalifi, President of the General Swimming and Water Sports Federation, explained that this championship continues the tradition of previous events organized in Aden. The federation aims to promote open water swimming among the youth and enhance the sport’s level in the future. This initiative aligns with the federation’s activity plan, demonstrating its commitment to developing the sport despite challenges, including the lack of an international swimming pool across the republic.
Race Highlights and Results
Following the opening remarks, the race commenced with participants from various provinces, including Aden, Hadramaut (coastal and valley regions), and Shabwa. Swimmer Abdulrahman Fadl Al-Muallim from Aden secured first place, while Omar Saeed Bahreb from Hadramaut’s coastal area took second. Abdullah Ali Bahbib from Aden finished third, followed by Abdullah Mohammed Saidan from Hadramaut’s valley in fourth place. Mohammed Ali Khalid Ben Abdat from Hadramaut’s coastal area rounded out the top five.
This championship not only highlights the talent of young swimmers but also emphasizes the significance of sports in fostering community spirit and youth engagement in Aden.
