Minister Signs Water Rehabilitation Agreement in Aden

A New Partnership for Water Access

Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, signed a cooperation agreement with the international organization "Muslim Hands." This agreement aims to implement a project focused on rehabilitating water sources in the Jihin and Al-Jaadi areas of the Lawdar district in Abyan Governorate.

Project Goals and Beneficiaries

The project seeks to enhance access to safe and sustainable drinking water for approximately 10,000 beneficiaries in both regions. Key initiatives include restarting a well in Al-Jaadi that has been inactive for over a decade. Additionally, the project will increase the production capacity of Well No. 2 in Jihin to about 226 cubic meters per day.

Comprehensive Works in Jihin

In Jihin, the project will involve extensive work, including the supply and installation of a submersible pump along with its motor and accessories. Furthermore, the project will establish a complete solar energy system to operate the pumping unit and rehabilitate the well room.

The plan also includes installing a horizontal pumping unit to feed the project’s second-phase reservoir. To ensure water safety, the project will incorporate a chlorine injection system and provide training for the community committee on project operation and management, ensuring its sustainability.

Improvements in Al-Jaadi

In Al-Jaadi, the project will supply and install a submersible pump with its motor and accessories, along with a solar energy system to power the well. The construction of a well room and the installation of a comprehensive chlorine injection system are also part of the plan.

Minister’s Commitment to Sustainable Solutions

Following the signing, Minister Al-Sharjabi emphasized that this project represents a significant addition to the ministry’s efforts, alongside its partners, to address challenges and improve water services in rural and underserved areas. He noted that utilizing solar energy systems will help reduce pumping costs and maintenance expenses.

Muslim Hands’ Commitment to Excellence

A representative from Muslim Hands expressed pride in partnering with the Ministry of Water and Environment. They reaffirmed their commitment to executing the project according to the highest technical and humanitarian standards, effectively and sustainably meeting the needs of local communities.
