The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor discusses humanitarian and developmental work with a UN official.

Minister Discusses Humanitarian and Development Issues in Yemen

In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al-Zauri, Yemen’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, engaged with Dr. Iman Al-Shanqeeti, the Deputy Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs at the United Nations in Yemen. The discussion focused on various pressing humanitarian and developmental challenges facing the country.

Transitioning from Relief to Sustainable Development

During the meeting, Minister Al-Zauri emphasized the urgent need to shift from emergency relief efforts to sustainable recovery programs. He highlighted the importance of economic empowerment initiatives that create job opportunities for youth and alleviate the ongoing economic crisis affecting the Yemeni population. Al-Zauri pointed out the detrimental impact of the economic war waged by Houthi militias on the country’s resources, which has led to the collapse of the local currency and a decline in essential services, ultimately threatening food security.

Government Support for UN Efforts

Minister Al-Zauri expressed the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations and international organizations operating in Yemen. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing all necessary support to facilitate the UN’s humanitarian and developmental missions, ensuring that aid reaches those in need across all provinces.

UN’s Future Plans and Commitment

In response, Dr. Al-Shanqeeti outlined the UN’s future objectives, reaffirming the organization’s support for the Yemeni government’s initiatives aimed at enhancing economic recovery plans and addressing the humanitarian crisis. She emphasized the UN’s dedication to coordinating with partners to support developmental programs and projects. Additionally, she mentioned the importance of finding sustainable solutions to displacement issues in collaboration with the Ministry and relevant authorities.

This meeting marks a crucial step in addressing Yemen’s multifaceted challenges, as both the government and the UN strive to improve the living conditions of the Yemeni people and foster long-term stability in the region.
