His remarks came during the conclusion of a training course focused on tourism statistics, organized by the ministry in Al-Ghaydah, Mahra Governorate.
Strengthening Coordination for Tourism Development
Minister Al-Iryani stressed the importance of collaboration between the ministry, its offices, and local authorities. He announced plans to prepare for the “Autumn Festival of Huf,” aiming to establish it as an annual cultural and tourism event in Mahra. He underscored the severe damage the tourism sector has suffered due to the Houthi militia’s actions and the ongoing conflict in Yemen.
Promoting Safe Provinces for Tourism
The minister pointed out that provinces enjoying security and stability should create favorable conditions for tourism development. He noted these regions possess significant attractions that could draw visitors. Al-Iryani also emphasized the value of tourism statistics in understanding tourist flows and trends. This data will enable stakeholders to devise policies and strategies to enhance tourism, improve infrastructure, and ultimately elevate the tourist experience.
Local Government’s Commitment to Tourism
Mahra Governor Mohamed Ali Yasser expressed the local authority’s readiness to collaborate on initiatives that promote tourism in the province. He encouraged participants in the training course to apply the knowledge gained to foster tourism development, thereby contributing to economic growth.
Training Course Outcomes
The training course benefited 40 participants from various sectors, including the tourism office, immigration, and tourism facilities. They learned about the importance of collecting data and indicators related to the tourism sector. This knowledge is essential for diagnosing existing challenges, predicting future needs, and formulating effective marketing strategies.
International Standards in Tourism Statistics
The course aimed to familiarize trainees with international recommendations for preparing tourism statistics, as outlined by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Participants gained insights into data sources and statistical methods, equipping them with the skills necessary to enhance data collection tools for the tourism sector.
By focusing on these initiatives, Yemen aims to revitalize its tourism sector, which is vital for economic recovery and sustainable development.
