In a significant meeting held today in the temporary capital of Aden, Yemen’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Salem Al-Saqtri, engaged with a delegation from the World Bank led by Manivanan Pathy, a senior specialist in the agriculture sector. The discussions focused on the World Bank’s interventions in new projects aimed at enhancing Yemen’s agricultural sector.
The meeting highlighted several completed initiatives, including a project aimed at combating locusts and enhancing food security. Additionally, the conversation covered future plans that involve developing the dairy supply chain, improving value and production breeds, supporting veterinary services, and expanding marketing mechanisms in collaboration with local entities.
Al-Saqtri expressed the ministry’s full readiness to coordinate with the World Bank for the successful implementation of these projects. He praised the Bank’s role in bolstering food security, advancing livestock development, enhancing plant health, and combating transboundary diseases. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of supporting food industries and rural women’s projects, aligning with the ministry’s national strategy for the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
This collaboration marks a crucial step towards revitalizing Yemen’s agricultural landscape, ensuring sustainable development, and improving the livelihoods of local communities.
