The Masam Project, part of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, recently conducted a significant operation to destroy and detonate a cache of landmines, unexploded ordnance, and munitions in the Al-Wadi district of Marib Governorate. These dangerous explosives were planted by Houthi militia in populated areas, posing a serious threat to civilian safety.
In an official statement, the Masam Project detailed that the operation involved anti-vehicle mines and other remnants of war. Field teams collected and removed these hazardous materials over the past few weeks. This initiative reflects Masam’s ongoing commitment to mitigate the impact of landmines and protect civilians from their dangers.
In Hajjah Governorate, the team received 38 reports from a local citizen regarding the discovery of an anti-tank minefield west of the Al-Makhazeen village in the Midi district. Team leader Engineer Saif Al-Mashmari confirmed that the team promptly responded to the site. After conducting a technical survey, they successfully neutralized several mines to ensure the safety of local residents.
Al-Mashmari urged residents to avoid approaching areas suspected of being contaminated with mines until demining operations are complete. He emphasized that these explosives pose a real threat to both civilian lives and livestock.
The Masam Project continues to play a crucial role in enhancing safety and security in Yemen, demonstrating a steadfast dedication to humanitarian efforts in the region.
