On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi chaired a joint meeting of the Leadership Council and the government. The meeting included key members such as Tariq Saleh, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrimi, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, Othman Majali, Mahmoud Al-Sabihi, and Salem Al-Khanbashi.
The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, focused on the current political, economic, and service conditions in Yemen. Participants discussed the ongoing military and security developments, particularly in light of the escalating actions by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister, the Governor of the Central Bank, and the Minister of Finance presented an overview of financial, economic, and service performance indicators. They outlined measures taken to implement sovereign decisions aimed at combating smuggling, enhancing oversight, and controlling land and maritime borders. These efforts aim to undermine the war economy managed by the militias and to cut off their funding and armament sources.
The meeting commended the government’s management during this exceptional phase. It highlighted the regularity of internal meetings and the government’s demonstrated ability to handle complex economic, service, and security issues. Participants noted the progress made in comprehensive reforms, maintaining financial and monetary stability, and implementing council decisions and recommendations to address existing revenue collection imbalances.
The meeting expressed deep appreciation for the generous and ongoing support from Saudi Arabia, led by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This support serves as a crucial pillar for the government’s efforts to meet its obligations, including paying employee salaries, improving essential services, and enhancing economic and financial stability. It also aims to alleviate the humanitarian suffering exacerbated by the Houthi militia’s war.
Participants reaffirmed the state’s commitment to restoring its sovereign tools and enhancing compliance with the sanctions regime. They emphasized the importance of protecting citizens, the private sector, and the supply chains for food and medicine.
The meeting praised the unprecedented institutional cohesion and teamwork displayed in the national battle to restore state institutions and end the suffering inflicted by the Houthi militia on the Yemeni people.
The meeting reviewed reports from the Ministers of Defense and Interior regarding field developments and readiness levels across various fronts. They discussed measures taken to protect civilians, secure vital installations, and deter threats.
The joint meeting recognized the high efficiency demonstrated by the armed forces and security personnel in countering Houthi militia actions. Their efforts have thwarted plans by the militia and associated terrorist organizations to destabilize the country.
The meeting highlighted recent security and intelligence successes in tracking and pursuing terrorist organization members. Notably, the Yemeni Counter-Terrorism Forces and the Joint Special Forces of the Saudi-led Coalition recently executed an operation that resulted in the elimination of ISIS spokesperson Abu Hudhayfah Al-Ansari.
The meeting directed that military, security, and intelligence readiness remain at peak levels. It called for enhanced protection measures, early warning systems, and integrated deterrence strategies.
In this context, the meeting stressed the need for strict enforcement of anti-smuggling measures and the regulation of land, sea, and air borders. This aligns with the Leadership Council’s decisions and the necessary steps to improve coordination between government agencies and local authorities. The goal is to dismantle smuggling networks and funding channels that benefit the Houthi militia and terrorist groups.
The Leadership Council emphasized that smuggling poses a direct threat to national security and drains state resources while financing the militia’s economy. Therefore, it is essential to take decisive action against smuggling networks and hold accountable those involved, regardless of their positions.
The meeting instructed the government to continue implementing the established procedures according to clear priorities and specific timelines. This includes tracking progress, achieving results, and taking corrective actions to reinforce accountability in decision implementation.
Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidency Office, also attended the meeting, which underscored the government’s commitment to addressing Yemen’s pressing challenges and restoring stability.
