Israeli Army Establishes Crossing Gates in Southern Lebanon

The Lebanese National News Agency reports that the Israeli army has set up crossing gates in several areas of southern Lebanon. These locations include the first and second zones, the yellow zone, and the border area extending to the southern banks of the Litani River.

Road Clearing Operations

In addition to the crossing gates, the Israeli army has cleared roads, particularly the route from the Hamoul area near the town of Naqoura to Aita al-Shaab. This military action occurs at a sensitive time as the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel enters its first testing phase.

Delay in Withdrawal Trial Phase

Israeli broadcasting authority has announced a delay in the trial phase of the withdrawal from southern Lebanon. This postponement aims to establish clear criteria and complete further preparations. An Israeli official noted that there is currently no specific timeline for creating the two trial zones.

A coordination room will operate around the clock to implement the security mechanism, pending approval from the United States for the participating entities.

Artillery Shelling and House Demolitions

In conjunction with these developments, Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of the town of Beit Yahoun this morning. Additionally, Israeli forces conducted nighttime demolitions of homes in several towns, including:

  • Beit Yahoun
  • Hadatha
  • Al-Tayri

The shelling coincided with gunfire along the road between the town of Kounin and the city of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, indicating a renewed military escalation.

Fragile Ceasefire Since June 20

It is important to note that a ceasefire was declared on June 20, leading to a decrease in Israeli targeting. However, recent developments suggest a military escalation despite the framework agreement, raising concerns about the sustainability of the current ceasefire.
