International Organization for Migration Reports New Displacement in Yemen

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) released its weekly report on Tuesday, highlighting significant displacement trends in Yemen. The report indicates that from May 18 to May 24, 48 families, comprising 288 individuals, were displaced.

Sources of Displacement

The report identifies that most of the displacement originated from the regions of Al Hudaydah, Sana’a, and Al Jawf. Specifically, 19 families moved to Marib, while 14 families relocated to Lahij and another 14 to Taiz.

Reasons for Displacement

According to the findings, a staggering 88% of the newly displaced families—42 in total—cited safety and security concerns due to ongoing conflict as their primary reason for leaving. In contrast, 6 families, representing 12%, reported economic factors related to the conflict as their reason for displacement.

Needs of Displaced Families

The report further reveals that 40% of the newly displaced families require financial assistance. Additionally, 35% need food supplies, 23% seek shelter services, and 2% are looking for livelihood opportunities.

Overall Displacement Statistics

The report notes that the total number of displaced families has risen to 1,184, affecting 7,104 individuals since the beginning of the year. This figure includes 42 families that were displaced during the previous reporting period.

The IOM continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian support in the region.
