Minister of Interior Discusses Security Cooperation with the Netherlands

Today, in the temporary capital of Aden, Minister of Interior Major General Ibrahim Ali Haidan met with Janiet Sieben, the Dutch Ambassador to Yemen. They focused on enhancing cooperation between Yemen and the Netherlands, particularly in the security sector.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, Minister Haidan praised the strong bilateral relations between the two friendly nations. He acknowledged the support provided by the Netherlands to Yemen’s Ministry of Interior, especially in training and empowering female police officers. Haidan expressed his desire to expand cooperation and increase support for capacity-building programs aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of security agencies.

Overview of Security Conditions

Major General Haidan reviewed the current security situation in Yemen and the challenges faced by security forces amid the ongoing escalation by Houthi militias. He emphasized that these militias pose a direct threat to citizen safety and stability in liberated areas.

The discussion also covered the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to implement institutional reforms. A key focus of these reforms is the integration of security formations, which aims to unify security decision-making. This integration will enhance operational efficiency and strengthen state sovereignty.

Humanitarian and Security Challenges

The Minister highlighted the urgent need for increased international efforts to support displaced persons in liberated provinces. He pointed out that the continuous influx of displaced individuals presents both humanitarian and security challenges, particularly as Houthi militias continue to seize humanitarian aid intended for citizens in areas under their control.

Commitment to Ongoing Support

Ambassador Janiet Sieben reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting Yemen and enhancing its security and stability. She expressed her eagerness to expand cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, which will bolster security agencies and improve their capacity to maintain order and stability.
