Importance of Incorporating Security Priorities in the UNDP 2027-2029 Program

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Administration for Planning, Organization, and Information, has emphasized the critical need to integrate security priorities into international funding and development plans. This statement was made during a review meeting focused on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Programme Document for 2025, held today at the Coral Hotel in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital. The meeting also discussed the proposed document for the 2027-2029 period.

Ministry of Interior’s Participation in the Meeting

Brigadier General Naif Al-Hamidi, Director General of Planning and Organization, represented the Ministry at the meeting. In his address, he conveyed greetings from the Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haidan. Al-Hamidi articulated the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing partnerships and coordination with the UNDP to bolster development efforts, as well as to ensure institutional and security stability.

Security and Stability as Foundations for Development

In his remarks, Al-Hamidi stressed that security and stability are fundamental pillars for the success of development and humanitarian programs. He urged that upcoming UN projects align with the Ministry of Interior’s strategic plan for 2026-2030. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of directing support toward institutional security recovery projects, digital transformation initiatives, infrastructure development, and operational support for both security and service sectors.

Review of Previous Projects and Future Efforts

The meeting reviewed key projects implemented in recent phases, focusing on justice, security, and maritime governance. Participants discussed enhancing port capabilities, as well as ongoing training programs, capacity building, and logistical support for the Coast Guard sector. They emphasized the necessity of continued coordination through official channels between government entities and the UNDP to ensure effective project execution.

In conclusion, participants reaffirmed the essential need to overcome past challenges to strengthen humanitarian and developmental efforts in the upcoming phase. Integrating security priorities into the UN’s agenda represents a strategic step toward achieving stability and sustainable development in Yemen.
