The Chairman of the Leadership Council has appointed a new Commander and Chief of Staff for the National Shield Forces.

Leadership Changes in Yemen’s Armed Forces
Today, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, who also serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, issued two significant decisions regarding military leadership.
Appointment of New Commander for National Shield Forces
The first decree, numbered (57) for the year 2026, appoints Brigadier General Bassam Mahdar Ahmed Ali Al-Sanabi as the new commander of the National Shield Forces. In recognition of his service, he has been promoted to the rank of Major General.
New Chief of Staff for National Shield Forces
In a related decision, the President issued decree number (58) for the year 2026. This decree appoints Brigadier General Abdulrahman Saleh Hassan Al-Lahji as the Chief of Staff for the National Shield Forces. He will also continue his role as the commander of the Fourth Infantry Brigade, receiving a promotion to the rank of Major General.
Implementation of the Decrees
Both decrees will take effect immediately upon their issuance. They will be published in the official gazette and military bulletins to ensure transparency and public awareness.
These leadership changes reflect a strategic move to strengthen Yemen’s military capabilities during a critical time. The appointments aim to enhance operational effectiveness and leadership within the armed forces.
