The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has expressed strong support for the Lebanese government’s recent decision to centralize arms possession within the state. This significant move aims to enhance national sovereignty and promote security and stability throughout Lebanon.
In an official statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi highlighted that this decision will activate Lebanese state institutions. Furthermore, it will boost international confidence and foster partnerships with multilateral entities. Albudaiwi emphasized that a more secure environment will attract private sector investments, which are crucial for Lebanon’s economic growth.
Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s ongoing support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability. He stressed the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement. These measures are essential to ensure that the Lebanese government maintains control over its entire territory, fulfilling the aspirations of the Lebanese people for a safer and more prosperous future.
The GCC’s endorsement of Lebanon’s arms control decision marks a pivotal step toward reinforcing the country’s governance and stability. As Lebanon navigates its path forward, the support from the GCC and the international community will play a vital role in fostering a secure and thriving environment for all its citizens.
