Yemen's Foreign Minister Participates in OIC Ministerial Meeting Amid UN General Assembly

Dr. Shai’a Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, participated in the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held alongside the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York today.

Challenges in Yemen: A Call for International Unity

During the meeting, Dr. Al-Zandani addressed the ongoing situation in Yemen. He highlighted that peace efforts remain stagnant, exacerbating the suffering of the Yemeni people. The minister attributed this stagnation to the Houthi militia’s intransigence and its systematic economic warfare against the Yemeni government and citizens. He expressed concern over the militia’s military escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, which threatens international navigation and marine environments. Dr. Al-Zandani emphasized the urgent need for a unified international stance to pressure the Houthis to cease their aggression and return to the peace process.

Support for Yemen: Acknowledgment of OIC Member States

The foreign minister expressed gratitude to OIC member states for their support of Yemen’s government. He underscored the importance of adhering to the principles and resolutions related to the Yemeni issue, particularly the “Yaoundé Declaration,” which rejects interference in Yemen’s internal affairs. He called for solidarity with the Yemeni people and support for the Presidential Leadership Council. Dr. Al-Zandani expressed hope for enhanced support to resolve the crisis and restore political, security, and economic stability in Yemen.

Advocacy for Palestinian Rights

In discussing the Palestinian situation, Dr. Al-Zandani condemned Israeli aggression and crimes in the Gaza Strip, as well as its plans in the West Bank. He urged the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions that affirm the illegitimacy of the occupation and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. He referenced the recent UN General Assembly resolution regarding the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on ending the illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling for action within one year. He reaffirmed that the solution to the conflict lies in supporting the Palestinian people’s rights and aspirations to establish an independent state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Solidarity with Lebanon

Dr. Al-Zandani also expressed Yemen’s solidarity with Lebanon, both its government and people, condemning the brutal Israeli aggression against the country. He stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its responsibilities to halt this aggression.

This participation underscores Yemen’s commitment to regional stability and its advocacy for humanitarian and political resolutions to ongoing conflicts.
