Yemen and China Strengthen Bilateral Relations

Meeting Overview

Today, Dr. Shai Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Zhao Cheng, the Chargé d’Affaires of the People’s Republic of China in Yemen. The two officials discussed the current state of bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance cooperation across various developmental and service sectors.

Development Needs and Initiatives

During the meeting, Minister Al-Zandani received a detailed presentation regarding the recent visit of the Chinese official to Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital. This visit included meetings with several government entities aimed at assessing developmental needs and identifying new opportunities for service projects in Yemen.

Support for Key Projects

Al-Zandani praised China’s initiatives in capacity building, training, health programs, and economic participation, particularly within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. He emphasized the importance of supporting electricity and infrastructure projects while encouraging increased Chinese investments in Yemen.

Trade and Customs Cooperation

The two sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in customs and food safety. They focused on improving trade exchanges, including the development of mechanisms for certifying the origin of goods to facilitate the movement of products between the two countries.

Commitment to Development

Zhao Cheng reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Yemen in areas such as development, infrastructure, and capacity building. He highlighted that these efforts would strengthen bilateral relations and serve the interests of both nations.
