Military Cooperation Discussed at Manama Dialogue

Yemeni Armed Forces Chief Engages with Global Leaders

Today, Major General Saqr bin Aziz, the Chief of Staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces, held discussions with military leaders, officials, and experts from friendly and allied nations. The talks focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination in military and maritime security efforts, particularly concerning Yemen and its armed forces.

Current Situation in Yemen

During the Manama Dialogue conference, Major General bin Aziz reviewed the ongoing national battle that the Yemeni armed forces and the Yemeni people have faced for over a decade. This struggle is primarily against the Houthi militia, which receives support from the Iranian regime. He emphasized that the Houthi threat extends beyond Yemen, posing risks to the region and the world.

Meetings with Key International Figures

The Chief of Staff met individually with several prominent figures, including Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, and his military advisor, General Anthony Hayward. He also engaged with Admiral Brand Cooper, Commander of U.S. Central Command, and Admiral Kurt Wainwright, Commander of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

Additionally, he met with Major General Dhiab bin Saqr Al-Nuaimi, Chief of Staff of the Bahrain Defense Force, and Rear Admiral Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, the military cooperation advisor in Bahrain. Other notable meetings included discussions with Major General Khaled Al-Shar’ian, Chief of Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, and Major General Youssef Al-Hunaiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces. He also met with General Onno Eichelsheim, Chief of Defense of the Netherlands, and Admiral Ho Guizlaine, Commander of French Forces in the Indian Ocean.

The Global Threat of Houthi Militias

Major General bin Aziz stated, “The Houthi militia is no longer just a local Yemeni threat or even a regional one. We face a dangerous terrorist organization that combines fascist movements with organized crime. The Houthis serve as a pawn for Iran in its regional and global conflicts.”

Call for Effective Military Partnerships

The Chief of Staff stressed that any effort lacking active partnership with the Yemeni military will remain incomplete and ineffective. He expressed the Yemeni leadership’s desire for serious contributions to strengthen both civil and military institutions in Yemen. This support will enable these institutions to fulfill their roles in regional and international security and peace.

This article highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance military cooperation in the context of Yemen’s security challenges, emphasizing the importance of international partnerships in addressing global threats.
