President Alimi Praises UK Support for Yemeni Coast Guard

President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has expressed strong appreciation for the United Kingdom’s announcement of a new support package for the Yemeni Coast Guard. This initiative forms part of coordinated efforts with regional allies and international partners to combat piracy, terrorism, arms smuggling, and organized crime.

Acknowledgment of British Support

In a post on the social media platform X, President Alimi conveyed his gratitude on behalf of the Council members, the government, and the Yemeni people. He highlighted that this new British support reflects the exceptional relations between the two friendly nations. Furthermore, he noted that the announcement coincided with the generous sponsorship from Her Royal Highness Princess Sophie and the United Nations for a roundtable discussion with Yemeni women focused on peace and security. This discussion plays a crucial role in the efforts to restore state institutions, rebuild Yemen, and foster its development.

Details of the Support Package

On Tuesday, the UK government revealed a new support package for the Yemeni Coast Guard. This package includes fast boats, training programs, and assistance, emphasizing the close cooperation between the international community and the Yemeni government. The goal is to prevent piracy and smuggling operations that threaten the security and stability of Yemen and the surrounding region.

Long-Standing Ties

This collaboration builds on the long-standing relationship between the Republic of Yemen and the United Kingdom. The UK has committed to providing larger developmental support for the Yemeni people in the upcoming phase, reinforcing its dedication to stabilizing the region.

The ongoing support from the UK illustrates a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of the Yemeni Coast Guard, which is vital for maintaining maritime security and ensuring the safety of the nation’s waters.
