President Rashad Alimi Honors Fallen Soldiers in Moscow

Official Visit to Russia

On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, commenced his official visit to the Russian Federation. As part of this visit, he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, located at the Kremlin Wall in Alexander Garden, Red Square, Moscow.

Ceremonial Honors

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, President Alimi observed a symbolic display by the Honor Guard. The military band performed the national anthem of the Republic of Yemen, adding a poignant touch to the event.

Significance of the Memorial

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, established in the late 1960s, stands as a powerful symbol of Russian national pride. It commemorates the resilience and sacrifices of the Russian people during World War II, particularly their victory over Nazism. The memorial houses the remains of unknown Soviet soldiers who fought in the Battle of Moscow in 1941. These remains were transferred from the city of Saint Petersburg, formerly known as Leningrad, to their current location adjacent to the western wall of the Kremlin.

Accompanying Delegation

President Alimi was accompanied during his visit by several key officials, including Dr. Shaaib Al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. He was also joined by military and security advisor General Mahmoud Al-Sabahi, development and reconstruction advisor Engineer Omar Al-Amoudi, cultural affairs advisor Marwan Damaj, and Yemen’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi.

This visit underscores the strengthening ties between Yemen and Russia, highlighting mutual respect and shared historical narratives.
