Efforts to Combat Drug Abuse in Hadhramaut Receive Support from Leadership

MUKALLA, Hadhramaut – Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, praised the significant efforts made by the Anti-Drug Administration in the Hadhramaut coast to combat drug abuse and its negative effects on society. This acknowledgment came during a meeting today in Mukalla with Acting Director of the Anti-Drug Administration, Captain Wadah Bazumah.

Challenges in Drug Enforcement

During the meeting, Captain Bazumah reviewed the performance level of the administration and the efforts to tackle drug-related cases. He highlighted the challenges faced in field operations, particularly due to the vast geographical area and the diverse smuggling methods. This situation demands intensified efforts from all relevant parties to effectively confront this pressing issue.

Strengthening Anti-Drug Efforts and Awareness

Governor Al-Khanbashi emphasized the need to enhance anti-drug initiatives, especially in eastern regions and certain districts experiencing notable smuggling activities. He stressed the importance of improving coordination among security agencies and intensifying community awareness campaigns to curb the spread of this dangerous epidemic.

Developing Human Resources

Al-Khanbashi also called for strengthening the Anti-Drug Administration with qualified personnel, particularly by utilizing graduates from police colleges and technical experts. This approach aims to meet the administrative’s technical and human resource needs, thereby improving performance and efficiency in the fight against drugs.

Upcoming Awareness Initiatives

The governor also reviewed the program of activities planned by the administration in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse. These activities will include an awareness art exhibition and various programs in collaboration with relevant agencies, aimed at enhancing community awareness about the dangers of drugs and prevention strategies.
