Taiz Governor discusses agricultural and water sector interventions with FAO representative.

On Saturday, the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, met with the Resident Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Hussein Gadin, to discuss interventions in the agricultural and water sectors in the province. The meeting focused on the needs of Taiz in the agricultural and food aspects, and the priorities of the province based on the economic and social development plan for 2024-2026.

Governor Shamsan emphasized the importance of cooperation in enhancing interventions in developmental and sustainable projects related to livelihoods. He highlighted the need for immediate actions in reclaiming agricultural lands that have been eroded by floods, especially in the directorates that suffered multiple damages due to heavy rains and floods, such as Maqbana and Mocha, among other affected areas. He also stressed the significance of building water barriers, dams, cultivating coffee, and focusing on livestock.

The FAO’s Resident Representative reviewed the organization’s interventions and projects in the province during the previous period, detailing achievements in agriculture, greenhouse farming, and coffee cultivation. He pointed out that the field visit to Taiz and some directorates underscored FAO’s commitment to the province, noting that FAO is a key partner in the economic and social development plan of Taiz.

The meeting also addressed the importance of establishing a unified platform and mechanisms for information and data exchange between the local authority, represented by the Planning and International Cooperation Office, and the FAO.

This collaboration between the local government of Taiz and the FAO aims to bolster the agricultural sector and water management in the province, contributing to its economic and social development.
