A young man has died under torture in a Houthi prison in Amran, raising concerns over human rights violations.

Young Man Dies Under Torture in Houthi Prison
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has reported the tragic death of 19-year-old Mohammed Aref Al-Rimi, who allegedly suffered severe torture while detained at the Al-Amashiya prison, operated by Houthi militia in the Sufyan district of Amran province, northern Yemen.
Circumstances of the Arrest
According to the network’s statement, Al-Rimi worked on a qat farm and was arrested a week ago on theft charges. Following his detention, the militia claimed he “committed suicide by hanging.” They urged for his swift burial and closure of the case. However, Al-Rimi’s family rejected this narrative, demanding an independent investigation. They assert that he endured physical abuse and electric shocks, evident from the torture marks on his body.
Outcry for Justice
This incident has sparked widespread condemnation from human rights advocates, who are calling for accountability regarding the ongoing violations occurring in Houthi prisons. Activists emphasize the need for thorough investigations to prevent further abuses and ensure justice for victims.
The situation highlights the urgent need for reform within Yemen’s prison system and raises critical questions about human rights practices in conflict zones.
